iowa city...i love you
i love this town. it's true. yesterday morning my 9.30 class was cancelled, so i had an hour to burn between the others. i was feeling sort of crummy, a bit of a coldish thing coming on i think, combined with a 1am night thurs in a last ditch attempt to finish my stat homework are to blame. so, i headed down to the java house for some soul warming coffee. (that's right, i'm working on developing a taste for coffee. i can see this one happening however, unlike trying to develop a taste for beer..bottom line is that stuff still tastes bad) i pulled up, roped my bike to my tree out front. yeah, i like the attention. the rack out front is always jammed full, and i'll admit, i kind of think the fixie looks neat roped to a tree out front of the shop.
a nice couple got out of their car, and noticed the bike, and i got yet another complement on my bike. which, is always nice. then i noticed that the line for coffee was extending out of the front door just a bit. consider my curiosity piqued. i've got the time...might as well wait this business out and see just why so many people are interested in coffee at 9.30 on a friday morning. don't you people have jobs!?!?
then i saw a flyer up on the wall, it looks like the java house is playing host to an iowa public radio show, something about coffee and conversation, featuring a cowboy author character...forgive me for forgetting his name...and william elliot whitmore! i've been hearing this guy on krui for a while now, and have been meaning to go pick up his album. john has seen him and told me a bit about him, so i've been wanting to see him play as well. lucky me! this shindig was supposed to get underway at 10am and with the looks of this coffee line, i'll be just in time.
so i got my coffee, and headed toward the back room, where they had set up for the show. waited for a few minutes and was pleased with being tall, as i could happily stand behind a crowd of nice, little old ladies and see the whole room.
right quick like they got the show underway, and lucky for me, they started with will playing a song. and john was right, he's fun to watch. a yound, skinny little white guy, playing guitar and singing like a grizzled old man.
i got to listen to a bit of the show, and then had to cut out for my next class. but, iowa city...you made my day...iowa city...i love you.
